Mom said, “You have to eat everything on your plate or you don’t get dessert.”30 some years later I remember being in a restaurant with a consulting team. I was saying that there was too much food on my plate. One of my colleagues said, “You paid for the food. You don’t have to eat it if you don’t want to. It’s your choice.” That statement for me was like a door opening.
When we are young children we are handed a set if rules which are meant to keep us safe or perhaps to keep us in line. Those rules can be buried so deep in our subconscious that we don’t realize how they are affecting our adult lives.
What is not working for you tight now? Is it possible that you have a carry over rule from your childhood?
What different rule would you make for yourself as an adult?
