It’s autumn in Florida. From my window I can see grasses which have sprouted pale lavender stalks of seeds that wave in the slightest breeze. There is a tree called Golden Rain that in the fall has thin seed pods that form all over the tree and turn a soft orange.
The seasonal color changes are subtle in Florida. It took several years of living here before I started to notice the changes. Now I watch for them because they remind me to plant our vegetables before the fall growing season is past us.
Sometimes when I am talking with a person who is feeling the affects of ageism in the workplace I point out some of the benefits they bring to the table. One of the most important characteristics of an experienced worker is the ability to notice subtle details that a less experienced worker would miss and could have a critical impact on a project or product.
