One of my favorite childhood books was, ‘Harold and the Purple Crayon’. Harold is about a curious young boy who has the power to create his world by drawing what he wants with his purple crayon.
At one point he wants to take a walk but there’s no path so he draws a sidewalk. Another time he wants to go for a walk in the moonlight but there is no moon so he draws one.
As a child it was very exciting to imagine being able to create whatever we want and go wherever we want to go. It seemed like magic.
What I have come to understand as an adult is that the book was saying that all of us have a purple crayon. It’s called imagination. It can take us anywhere we want to go.
Where will your purple crayon take you this week?
