As a young person I thought having glasses with sparkles in them were “cool”. As I grew older I thought they made me look geeky and that no boy would ever ask me out on a date.
My freshman year in high school I begged my parents for contact lenses. They agreed if I paid half. I saved every babysitting dollar, money from working the snack bar at the pool and birthday money.
Finally the day arrived that I was fitted for contact lenses. I thought I looked more beautiful. My confidence level went up.
It’s funny how perceptions change. I know people now who don’t need glasses yet will wear a pair to interviews so they will be perceived to be more intelligent than they feel.
In the end it’s not the glasses or the contacts that make the difference. It’s what we believe about ourselves.
What do you believe about yourself?
